Carolina achieved professional-level certification after completing advanced training with Dr. Brenna Hicks, a world-renowned leader in the field of play therapy. Under Dr. Hicks’ mentorship, Carolina gained in-depth expertise in the Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) model, mastering the therapeutic skills that promote emotional regulation, self-esteem, and secure attachment in children.

Joanna is a post-graduate art therapy student at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy (CiiAT), currently completing her practicum under the supervision of a Registered Art Therapist (RCAT) and the clinical consultation of Carolina Alvarez, RP/CCPT. She offers a calm, gentle, and supportive space where clients are welcomed just as they are, and their experiences are honoured with compassion and care.

Before entering the field of art therapy, Joanna spent over two decades working in corporate environments, supporting people through high-pressure situations. Having personally experienced burnout, stress, and major life transitions, she understands the complex pressures that many people face in their everyday lives. These experiences continue to shape her empathetic, grounded, and thoughtful approach to therapy.

She deeply values the many layers that make up each person’s story. Her approach is relaxed, client-centered, and strength-based—rooted in creative expression, mindfulness, emotional regulation, attachment, and connection.

Anchor Child Therapy is a teaching practice that works with master’s-level student therapists who are completing their practicum under supervision. As part of their training, student therapists offer sessions at a reduced rate. This provides clients with the opportunity to receive compassionate, high-quality art therapy while supporting the growth and development of future professionals in the field.
