At Anchor Child Therapy, we understand that teachers and school staff play a vital role in a child’s emotional development. Child-Teacher Relationship Training (CTRT) is an evidence-based program designed to strengthen the connection between educators and students through relationship-based, play-informed strategies.
When children feel seen, understood, and valued at school, they’re better able to learn, regulate emotions, and build confidence. CTRT helps teachers create that kind of supportive environment—one where connection becomes the foundation for growth.
Training Options
At Anchor Child Therapy, CTRT is offered in two formats:
Group Workshops: Designed for schools or teams of educators who want to build collective skills and foster a unified, supportive approach.
Individual Training: Personalized one-on-one sessions for educators seeking to deepen their understanding of relationship-based classroom practices and apply them to specific student needs.
CTRT is modeled after Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) and grounded in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) principles. It teaches educators how to build emotional safety and trust with students using play-based relationship skills.
Through interactive training sessions, teachers learn to:
Strengthen relationships with students who show challenging behaviors.
Use reflective listening and developmentally appropriate limit-setting to support emotional regulation.
Foster a classroom atmosphere of respect, safety, and understanding.
Integrate play principles to enhance connection and communication.
CTRT in Practice
In CTRT, educators learn practical tools that can be applied in everyday classroom interactions. Sessions combine teaching, reflection, and practice to help teachers:
Respond to difficult behaviors with calm confidence.
Recognize emotional needs beneath the surface of behavior.
Create nurturing, structured environments that promote learning and cooperation.
When teachers feel equipped and supported, classrooms become calmer, more connected spaces where every child can thrive.
Who can benefit from CTRT?
Teachers, ECEs, and school counselors
Resource Teachers, Educational Assistants and childcare professionals
Administrators seeking to support social-emotional well-being in their schools and daycares
Why It Matters
Children learn best when they feel emotionally secure. CTRT helps teachers become anchors of safety and trust in their classrooms—empowering both educators and students to build resilience, connection, and confidence.
